DSC
Digital Signature Certificate A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure digital key issued by recognized Certifying Authorities to validate and certify the identity of the person holding it. It is the electronic equivalent of a physical signature, used for online filings.
Where it appears in practice
It is practically required for e-filing of Income Tax Returns, MCA documents, GST returns, and Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) filings, ensuring the authenticity and non-repudiation of submitted documents.
A worked example
When filing a company's annual return on the MCA portal, a director must use their Class 3 DSC to digitally sign the e-forms before uploading them.
