AIS
AIS
Annual Information Statement (AIS) The Annual Information Statement is a comprehensive view of a taxpayer’s financial transactions during a year, including interest, dividends, securities transactions, mutual funds, and foreign remittances, expanding beyond what is captured in Form 26AS.
Where it appears in practice
It is essential during tax preparation. Taxpayers must ensure their declared income matches the AIS. If there is an error in the AIS, a taxpayer has a deadline [VERIFY] to submit feedback to correct it.
A worked example
A taxpayer sells mutual funds during the year. The sale value and capital gains information will be reported by the registrar to the Income Tax Department and will populate the taxpayer's AIS.
