Income Tax Return Form 1 (Sahaj) ITR-1 (Sahaj) is a simplified tax return form used by resident individuals whose total income up to ₹50 Lakhs comes primarily from salary/pension, one house property, and other basic sources like interest or agricultural income (up to ₹5,000).
Where it appears in practice
It is the most widely used form by salaried employees in India. It matters during tax season, providing a simple, user-friendly way to report income, claim standard deductions, and calculate tax liability or refunds.
A worked example
A software engineer earning ₹15 Lakhs entirely from her salary and ₹20,000 from savings bank interest will file her annual taxes using the straightforward ITR-1 form.
