GSTR-1
GSTR-1
Goods and Services Tax Return 1 GSTR-1 is a monthly or quarterly return filed by regular GST-registered taxpayers detailing all outward supplies (sales) of goods and services. It forms the basis for the recipient's Input Tax Credit (ITC) as the declared invoices automatically populate the buyer's GSTR-2B.
Where it appears in practice
It is crucial for maintaining an uninterrupted supply chain. If a seller fails to file GSTR-1 by the 11th of the subsequent month [VERIFY deadline], their buyers cannot claim ITC, often leading to payment holds and business disputes.
A worked example
A wholesaler sells goods worth ₹1,00,000 to a retailer. The wholesaler uploads the sales invoice details in their GSTR-1, enabling the retailer to claim the corresponding GST paid as ITC.
