GSTIN
Goods and Services Tax Identification Number
A Goods and Services Tax Identification Number is a unique 15-digit alphanumeric identifier assigned to every registered taxpayer under the GST regime in India, replacing the old system of multiple registration numbers.
Where it appears in practice
Mandatory for businesses exceeding the turnover threshold of <Verify>₹40 Lakhs</Verify> (goods) or <Verify>₹20 Lakhs</Verify> (services).
A worked example
A business in Maharashtra is issued GSTIN 27AAAAA0000A1Z5 upon registration, used for all GST compliance and invoicing.
