Form 16A

Form 16A

Certificate of Tax Deducted at Source on Income other than Salary Form 16A is a TDS certificate issued by a deductor for tax deducted on incomes other than salary, such as interest earned on fixed deposits, rent receipts, insurance commissions, or professional fees paid to contractors.

Where it appears in practice

It is crucial for non-salaried individuals, freelancers, and businesses to verify the tax deducted on their various income streams, ensuring they receive appropriate credit for TDS when filing their annual tax returns.

A worked example

A freelance consultant receives a Form 16A from a client showing that 10% TDS was deducted from their ₹100,000 professional fee and remitted to the government, which the consultant can claim as a tax credit.
